AWS GovCloud alternative
Pacific vs AWS GovCloud: dedicated pods vs shared government cloud
AWS GovCloud is the default regulated-cloud answer for many US public-sector and defense-adjacent teams. It is still a multi-tenant cloud region with a shared responsibility model. Pacific is the conversation you have when a dedicated, on-prem or single-tenant GPU module is a better fit than another GovCloud account.
GovCloud is the right default for most accredited AWS workloads. Pacific is for reserved GPU factories and CUI-bounded clusters where shared government cloud is the thing you are trying not to put the model in.
Decision criteria
Pacific and AWS GovCloud, side by side
Honest differences. No invented competitor pricing. Commercial terms for Pacific are always private.
| Criterion | Pacific | AWS GovCloud |
|---|---|---|
| Tenancy / boundary | Single-tenant module or on-prem racks. Physical boundary is the product. | Isolated AWS regions for government; still a shared cloud with AWS’s model. |
| Accreditation posture | Scope-reduction infrastructure only. Pacific does not sell a certification. | GovCloud carries AWS’s existing government accreditation story. |
| GPU shape | Reserved HGX B300-class clusters with fabric chosen in the deployment plan. | Whatever GPU instance families GovCloud currently offers, subject to regional inventory. |
| Data gravity | The cluster can sit with the data / program, including air-gapped-adjacent sites. | Workloads go to GovCloud regions. That is the point of the region. |
| Operations | Pacific-operated remote ops + regional field service. | You operate as an AWS customer inside GovCloud. |
| Pricing | Private commercial terms. No published GPU-hour rate. | AWS list and EDPs apply; we do not quote GovCloud instance prices. |
When to buy which
Honest split
When Pacific wins
- The model or dataset should not live in a shared government cloud, even an accredited one.
- You need reserved high-end GPU density that GovCloud inventory does not currently match.
- A dedicated on-prem or single-tenant module is what the program security team will accept.
When AWS GovCloud wins
- You need AWS’s government accreditation and service catalog more than a dedicated cluster.
- The workload is already designed for GovCloud IAM, networking, and ATO patterns.
- You want AWS to remain the operator of record for the infrastructure layer.
